Key Takeaways -Digital Marketing Internship Program of Digital Deepak 2

Key Takeaways -Digital Marketing Internship Program of Digital Deepak

The first class of Digital Marketing Internship Program by Deepak Kanakaraju began with a bang on 25th February 2020.

There were many golden nuggets shared by Deepak in the internship class.

I have listed below my 12 key takeaways from this class.

This is part of the internship program conducted by

1. The Golden Triangle

One of the first things that Deepak shared was the reason for starting this internship class.

It had to do with the golden triangle.

The golden triangle is very simply these three things:

  1. Learn
  2. Do
  3. Teach.

In order to learn we have to do and teach.

The more we teach, the more we learn.

It’s a very simple but dynamic principle.

Deepak wants to teach so that he can add to his learning.

This also showed his passion for learning.

2. Learn About The Economy

Deepak emphasized the need to learn about the global economy because the digital marketing business is closely related to it.

So if you understand the global economy properly, then you can become good digital marketers.

He explained at length the current economic factors and projected the future economic forecast as well.

It was interesting to know that debt actually causes the economy to expand.

Any kind of debt, including credit card debts, will cause businesses and the economy to rise up.

Deepak gave the example of a loan taken for housing.

It passes from one bank to another causing business to go up.

He recommended reading books like Currency Wars and Economics 101.

3. The Concept Of Digital Marketing

It was a revelation for me to know that we need to concentrate first on the marketing part and then go for the digital part.

In other words, we need to learn marketing first, and then learn how to do it in the digital format.

If you understand marketing, doing it on the digital platform will be easy peasy.

4. The Longevity Of  Digital Marketing

Deepak explained very simply that marketing is here to stay.

As long as we add value to people’s lives, marketing is here.

The economy may go up or down, but the demand for marketing will always be there.

The market needs always keep on increasing, because the more solutions come out, the more the needs increase.

For example, humans graduated from walking to motor bikes to motor cars.

But with the advent of cars, many other needs also came into being along with it, like car fuel, accessories etc.

In short, marketing is not going anywhere soon.

It is here to stay for a long time to come.

5. The Importance of Setting Goals

Then he went into the nitty-gritty of digital marketing.

Creating goals for your digital marketing is very important.

If you don’t have goals, it will be very difficult to achieve anything, in any area of life.

This applies to digital marketing as well.

A person with goals and plans will always beat the person without goals and plans

– Warren Buffet.

One of the first things to do, is to set up our goals as we learn digital marketing.

If we don’t know what we want to accomplish, then we will be lost on our way.

6. The next most important thing is finding your niche

A niche is also sometimes referred to as a vertical.

It is your main focus or topic.

A niche should be the combination of your passion, talents and market opportunity.

You should be passionate about your niche or you will give up somewhere down the line.

If you are really passionate about your niche, you will have no problem creating content all the time.

You must be talented in the areas related to your niche.

If not, you will not be successful in solving people’s problems.

This is pretty obvious.

Lastly, there should be a market demand for your niche.

Even if you are passionate about something and have related talents, no one will buy your products, if there is no market demand for it.

The way to find market demand is through the following:

  • Google Auto Suggest
  • Amazon Reviews
  • Pre and post product services
  • Finding out from the customers

It is super important to narrow down your niche as much as possible.

Having a general niche will not help in digital marketing.

There is a gold mine out there in the world.

We just need to find where the gold is.

We don’t have to create the gold, it’s already out there.

We just need to find it. The riches are in the niches.

The gold is in the micro niches.

Thus, it is of utmost importance to find micro niches, where there will be less competition and more possibility of making a fortune.

There are three major or broad niches in the market.

They’re health, wealth, and relationships.

Under each of these niches, there are several micro niches.

For example under health there is fitness, dieting, preventive medicine, Ayurvedic medicine and many other subdivisions.

Under wealth or money, there could be personal finance, make money online, digital marketing, affiliate marketing, banking, investments, share market and Forex, and many other micro niches.

Under relationships, we can have micro niches like dating and marriage, parenting, kids, relationships at work, relationships with friends and many other similar subjects.

The important thing is to go deeper into any niche that is of interest to you.

The more micro your niche is, the more benefits you could get.

7. Marketing has to do mainly with the psychology of people

It has to do with the mind set and intent of the buyers.

This seems to be a much neglected factor by marketers.

Marketing has everything to do with the psychology of people.

Once we understand the mindset of the people, then we can become successful marketers.

We can have success in marketing by providing a solution to people’s problems or pain points.

To understand people’s pain points, we need to understand their psychology first.

If we learn how to do this, then success in marketing is guaranteed.

8. Strong Communications Skills

The next most important thing about marketing is the communication skill.

Communication is the very basic skill required in all aspects of life and much more in marketing.

Deepak emphasized the importance of development of good English with reference to marketing.

He explained different ways to develop English.

  • One way to do it is by writing at least 500 words daily.
  • Secondly, you can develop your English by reading books in English.
  • Another way is to listen to podcasts in English.
  • The fourth way to develop English is to actually speak in English.
  • Lastly he encouraged us to watch television sitcoms in English.

All this will help us to develop our conversation skills in English.

It will help us to develop our vocabulary.

Ultimately, it will help us to become better digital marketers catering to an international market.

9. Personal Branding

Personal branding is absolutely important.

Personal branding builds trust and confidence in the customers mind.

This will ultimately result in boosting business.

You should aim for number 1 position always because no one remembers number 2.

Deepak illustrated this by asking if anyone remembers the first Prime Minister of India and everyone did remember.

When he asked about the second prime minister, no one could answer with confidence.

This shows that the number 1 person is always remembered, not the number 2.

This applies to Digital marketing as well.

Personal branding can be done by sharing your content and services across various social media platforms like Facebook,

Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube, and others.

Another way to do it is by providing lots of value to your potential and current customers.

Rather than offering common services, offer something unique to the people.

Brands like Tesla, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple have done exactly this.

Even has become one of the topmost brands in India for digital marketing.

Many people buy courses from because of this personal branding.

The best known will beat the best

10. Integrated Digital Marketing

Next, he emphasized the need for integrated digital marketing.

Integrated digital marketing involves content writing, S.E.O., email marketing, social media, paid advertisements, and organic traffic.

It involves integrating all these aspects to get the desired end results.

At the core of this is the content. As it is rightly said that content is King.

All means are employed to drive traffic to the content.

Search engine optimization, paid advertisements and social media exposure drives traffic to the content.

Email marketing does the same thing and so does organic traffic.

The goal of integrated digital marketing is to solve people’s problems and get paid for it in return.

It is of utmost importance to drive targeted traffic to our content.

We don’t just need any traffic, but laser targeted traffic to become successful digital marketers.

When we talk about integrated digital marketing, all these aspects work in tandem to give us maximum conversions and sales.

All is well when we sell, sell, sell

— Deepak Kanakaraju.

11. Funnel Building is Vital for Success

Funnels are important to convert people into clients or customers.

The concept of funnel building for maximum sales conversions was started a few years back mainly through

the efforts of people like Russel Brunson, the founder of Clickfunnels.

It is a term used to describe a funnel, wherein people at the top of the funnel are just curious people.

The next part of the funnel is where they develop interest in the products.

Then they are engaged deeply and finally the sales happen.

This is a very scientific and systematic process that is well researched, and proven to convert into sales.

12. The Challenge to Earn INR 1 Crore

Finally, Deepak challenged us to have a specific goal of earning rupees 1 crore in 3 years time.

This can be done easily by selling products of INR 10,000 to 1000 people.

It can also be done by selling a product  worth INR 1,000 to 10,000 people.

This could be an eBook, a digital product or a course.

He explained that this could be done easily within 3 years.

He encouraged us to do it even before 3 years ago.

Deepak was very positive and his positive attitude was quite infectious.

He was his usual self- very cool and laid back.

All in all, this was a very informative, encouraging, and enlightening experience for me.

I learnt quite a few new things and some things which I already knew were reinforced.

This internship session has opened a whole new world of possibilities for me in the realm of digital marketing.

It was wonderful to see Deepak’s dog Maxi as well.

I am quite excited about the future internship classes.

I am expecting many important vital and interesting aspects of marketing, specifically digital marketing.

I look forward to interacting with others interns and building long lasting relationships with them.

I am also expecting to see world-class digital marketers being produced within this internship program.
